Degenerative Joint Disease
Total Knee Replacements are usually a last resort and are often done due to severe knee pain and lack of mobility which is often caused by arthritis.
A total knee replacement consists of replacing the part of the femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone) that make up the knee as well as the patella (knee cap) with artificial parts that will help the patient regain mobility and eliminate pain.
Recovery from surgery will require immediate physical therapy for several weeks but patients will notice a dramatic drop in pain soon after surgery.
