Chondromalacia
Chondromalacia, also called runners knee is an irritation of the cartilage on the undersurface of the knee cap. This occurs when the knee cap constantly rubs on the knee joint which will eventually cause pain. This condition is common among runners and other similar sports.
Treatment
Rest is a very important part in treating chondromalacia. Avoid activity that causes pain for several weeks with a gradual return to normal activity. Swimming could be a great alternative to normal exercise during this period.
Consult your physician before using any type of anti-inflammatory medication.
Working with a physical therapist to work on a strengthening and stretching routine will also be very helpful in preventing this from happening again.
