Plantar Fasciitis

Picture
The Plantar fascia is a strong band of connective tissue that connects your heal bone to your toes and supports the arch of your foot.
Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of this band which can be caused by an assortment of different reasons ranging from high arches in your foot to wearing worn out shoes but it often is associated with runners.
Symptoms will include pain on the bottom of your foot/feet with the first steps of the day but pain may stop for a short time with increased steps but only to later return later in the day as you stand for increased periods of time or take a long jog.

Treatment
Rest is very important.  Avoid activity that causes pain for several weeks with a gradual return to normal activity.
Ice will also help bring down inflammation in the area and reduce swelling.
Consult your physician before using any type of anti-inflammatory medication.
Your physical therapist will give you stretches and exercises to help eliminate your plantar fasciitis and educate you on how to prevent it from coming back.
